In recent years, new knowledge about gluten intolerance has led to some really important progress. Unlike what they thought in the past, celiac disease is frequent and polymorphous from a clinical point of view. This means it can show itself in various ways, one of which is insulin dependent diabetes.
From a practical point of view, nowadays we can say that gluten intolerance (with no symptoms or apparently silent clinically) is much more frequent in those suffering from different auto-immune diseases, one of which being insulin dependent diabetes.
Recent research confirms that unrecognised celiac disease is present 3/7 times more frequently than expected in those suffering from insulin dependent diabetes.
The risk of silent celiac disease is greater not only in those suffering from insulin dependent diabetes, but also in their I and II degree relations. So you have a further population needing screening no matter what their symptoms are.
Diabetes is caused by an increase in blood sugar concentration, indicated by the glycaemia level normally between 0.8 and 1 gram per litre of blood.
Due to these results, Bi-Aglut has produced a vast range of lupin products. Lupin is an important pulse favouring correct sugar absorption thus a reduced risk of diabetes.

A gluten-free diet can be effective prevention against diabetes. They have proved that if a child with celiac disease is diagnosed before the age of two and starts and maintains a gluten-free diet from then onwards, the chance that he or she develops diabetes before the age of twenty is less than 1%. If it is diagnosed later, between aged two and ten (so exposure to gluten has been longer), this probability goes up to 2% and if the diagnosis is made after age 12/14 the risk quadruples or worse.
Nowadays, medicine has enough evidence to know that gluten intolerance can be “hidden” far more often in those suffering from diabetes and their family. So the feeling is that finding and curing celiac disease can prevent a certain number of auto-immune diseases including insulin dependent diabetes
